Integrative Pain Treatment Center
at Oakbrook Terrace

Chronic pain interferes with the daily lives of 76 million people in the U.S. and accounts for 50 million lost work days every year. For some, it means spending much of their day resting and recuperating from normal activities.

The Marianjoy Integrative Pain Treatment Center in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, offers two specialized programs designed to help individuals with chronic pain who want to learn ways to manage their pain and regain functionality. Both programs are 21-day outpatient programs to meet our patient’s needs:
a full-day Comprehensive Pain Management Program and a half-day Morning Solutions for Pain Management Program.

The Comprehensive Pain Management Program focuses on managing chronic pain to restore a lifestyle of function and mobility. Clients participate for 6-7 hours per day in nursing education, physical therapy, physiatry, psychology, biofeedback and case management.

The Morning Solutions for Pain Management Program which is less intense and is intended for individuals who either cannot tolerate the Comprehensive Pain Management Program Clients or individuals who do not require all of the services offered in the comprehensive program. These patients participate for 4-5 hours per day.  This program is designed for those clients with less downtime and fewer and/or less significant lifestyle alterations.

The Marianjoy Integrative Pain Treament Center is the only CARF-accredited program of its kind in Illinois. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers in many areas including medical rehabilitation. CARF currently accredits more than 5,000 providers at more than 18,000 locations in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, and South America.

Improving Outcomes

Our integrated approach aims to improve the mind, body and spirit and to do this, we use one or more of the following methods:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Exercise
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Passive and active stretching, strengthening and low-impact aerobics
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Biofeedback
  • Stress management
  • Psychology
  • Medication management

Treating Non-Chronic Pain

We also understand that not every person experiences disabling chronic pain, but they too can learn to manage their condition and improve their lives.

To meet this need, our Integrative Pain Treatment Center offers single-service therapies on an outpatient basis for people with acute or subacute pain.

Referral process

If you think you may be a candidate for our program, you may schedule an appointment with a physiatrist in the Marianjoy Medical Group in Oakbrook Terrace.  After completing a comprehensive pain evaluation, the doctor will determine which level of care is best suited for you and will write a prescription for the services you need.

Once we verify insurance coverage and you meet any predetermination requirements of your insurance company, you will be authorized to enter the program.

We encourage you to ask your insurance provider about benefits coverage for physical therapy, psychology, biofeedback and vocational counseling (if appropriate) in case you need those services as part of your rehabilitation. All those services are available in the Integrative Pain Treatment Center.
