Integrative Pain Treatment Center
at Oakbrook Terrace

Chronic pain interferes with the daily lives of 76 million people in the U.S. and accounts for 50 million lost work days every year. For some, it means spending at least one quarter of their day resting and recuperating from normal activities. Others spend nearly half of each day in “down time” unable to rise from bed or function at all.

The Marianjoy Integrative Pain Treatment Center in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, offers two specialized programs designed to help individuals with chronic pain who want to learn ways to manage their pain and regain functionality. Both programs are designed for people who are willing to accept a “management” instead of “curative” philosophy for chronic pain.

The Marianjoy Integrative Pain Treament Center is the only CARF-accredited program of its kind in Illinois. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers in many areas including medical rehabilitation. CARF currently accredits more than 5,000 providers at more than 18,000 locations in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, and South America.

Improving Outcomes

Our integrated approach aims to improve the mind, body and spirit and to do this, we use one or more of the following methods:

Biofeedback

Medication management

Stress management

Physical therapy and fitness

Soft tissue mobilization

Passive and active stretching, strengthening and low-impact aerobics

Manual medicine

Relaxation techniques

Psychology

Treating Non-Chronic Pain

We also understand that not every person experiences disabling chronic pain, but they too can learn to manage their condition and improve their lives.

To meet this need, our Integrative Pain Treatment Center offers single-service therapies on an outpatient basis for people with acute or subacute pain, either at our Oakbrook Terrace facility or our main campus in Wheaton.

Referral process

If you think you may be a candidate for our program, you may schedule an appointment with a physiatrist in the Marianjoy Medical Group in Oakbrook Terrace.  After completing a comprehensive pain evaluation, the doctor will determine which level of care is best suited for you and will write a prescription for the services you need.

Once we verify insurance coverage and you meet any predetermination requirements of your insurance company, you will be authorized to enter the program.

We encourage you to ask your insurance provider about benefits coverage for physical therapy, psychology, biofeedback and vocational counseling (if appropriate) in case you need those services as part of your rehabilitation. All those services are available in the Integrative Pain Treatment Center.
