Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation

Marianjoy’s Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Program specializes in guiding patients toward resuming or achieving active lifestyle goals. Primarily, we serve people who have had:

  • Joint replacement
  • Orthopedic trauma such as a fracture
  • Arthritis
  • Amputation
  • Sports injury or trauma
  • Diseases that affect bones and muscles

We enable patients in our Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Program to:

  • Enhance function and well-being
  • Build awareness by providing education and resources
  • Promote physical activity and improve body image
  • Encourage long-term programs for active lifestyle goals

Our first steps are establishing appropriate, concrete goals and planning for a suitable date to return the patient to as normal a routine as possible.

Education

Much of the program focuses on education and constant practice. We review routine physical activities, examining the most effective and comfortable ways to return patients to an active and productive lifestyle. We place a strong emphasis on educating our patient and their family. Our educational offerings include:

Equipment/orthotic or prosthetic review: Working and practicing with necessary equipment is crucial.

Family counseling/support: Family members and loved ones learning how to manipulate prosthetic devices and equipment.

Peer support: We encourage patients to attend peer meetings and support groups to discuss the challenges and emotions patients face and to learn more about how to manage their life at home.

Vocational services: We help high school and college students preparing to return to school and professionals yearning to get back to work as soon as possible.

Ultimately, our mission is to provide educational resources for physical, emotional and behavioral wellness, guiding and returning patients to home, work and community environments.

Your Care Team

As no two injuries are alike, each patient at Marianjoy participates in an individually tailored treatment plan led by a team of brain injury experts.

Your Marianjoy team will include:

Levels of Care

When patients leave Marianjoy, they may transition to one of several other treatment programs. Our goal remains to help every patient become as independent as possible. After an inpatient stay at Marianjoy, a patient may continue rehabilitation at one of our subacute care sites, day rehabilitation program, or comprehensive outpatient programs.

Even after patients complete formal rehabilitation, Marianjoy offers resources to help individuals continue their progress, including support groups and individual consultations. Our goal is to remain a valuable resource for every patient who comes through our doors.

Attending and consulting physicians are not employed by Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, but are independent physicians with privileges to provide services to patients at our facilities.  The attending physicians are employees of Marianjoy Medical Group, a separate corporation from the hospital.
