Spiritual Care

Everyone is welcome to benefit from Marianjoy’s Spiritual Care Services for the healing of body, mind and spirit. Professional chaplains who are dedicated to the spiritual care of patients, families and staff meet with each patient to make a spiritual assessment within 72 hours of admission, and are available for ongoing spiritual care consultations as desired. Patients may also request their own clergy be notified of their hospitalization at any time. Our spiritual care professionals are highly trained and seek to promote healing and wholeness by companioning each patient in the way most authentic to that person’s own inner healing process. Whether or not our patients and their families derive beliefs and values from a formal religious practice, our chaplains are here to help tend to their spirits and support them through the challenging work of transformation that is known as rehabilitation.

Our chaplains are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after hours by pager. Our Eucharistic Ministers provide communion daily between noon and 1 p.m. to Catholic patients and their families. In addition to the regularly scheduled Ecumenical Worship and Catholic Mass held on Sunday mornings, the chaplains conduct various worship and ritual prayer services throughout the year. Our chapel and meditation rooms are open 24 hours a day for private prayer and reflection.

Services the chaplains provide:

  • Clinical spiritual assessment
  • Spiritual intervention
  • Spiritual counseling
  • Worship
  • Ethical counseling
  • Spirituality groups
  • Grief and loss counseling and support
  • Sacramental ministry
