January 29, 2013 (Wheaton, IL) – In addition to promoting individual development and leadership to its members, many sororities and fraternities incorporate philanthropy as an integral part of their objectives. Sue Cozart, president of the alumnae chapter, explains the chapter’s goals and objectives: “Our group has consistently supported Marianjoy over the years for multiple reasons. First, we wanted to contribute to a local organization while also supporting the national Alpha Phi Foundation. Several of our members have been or currently are affiliated with Marianjoy, and initially made us aware of the great work that is done at the rehabilitation hospital.”

Kathleen Yosko, Marianjoy President and CEO, accepted the chapter’s most recent donation in January 2013. “We are grateful to the Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter of DuPage Valley for its generosity to Marianjoy and our patients,” Yosko confirms. “These funds support Marianjoy CPR courses and allow us to purchase new equipment.”

With an active membership of approximately 30 women, the chapter does a great amount of work to raise funds. “We sell Care Bear packages to local collegiate Alpha Phi chapters shortly before finals, which contain goodies including home-baked treats,” Cozart explains. “We also sell no-sew blankets and pillows in the Alpha Phi colors made by our members. Finally, we sell gift cards and receive a percentage of the value of the card from the retailer.”

“Every time we make a donation, we see what the money will be used for, and it is very gratifying to witness how we make a difference,” Cozart says. “Alpha Phi also supports heart health and our donation is used for something that is related to that cause. We look forward to supporting Marianjoy for a long time to come.”
