Marianjoy's Informative Pediatric Disability Website Celebrates First Anniversary

May 15, 2012 (Wheaton, IL)InformationConnections.org, the website for parents of children with developmental disabilities and chronic diseases recently celebrated its first anniversary as a leading resource on conditions including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Down Syndrome, and Traumatic Brain Injury, among others. The informative website was developed and launched by the Marianjoy Medical Library with a grant from National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region.

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital’s Medical Library Director and Webmaster, Nalini Mahajan, led the initiative to create Information Connections. “The website is a portal to a number of resources and accurate clinical information on numerous developmental diseases,” notes Mahajan. “The site provides access to reliable information for families of children with these issues but also may serve colleges and universities, public libraries, teaching hospitals, and healthcare institutions as an accurate educational resource.”

Since its initial launch in April 2011, InformationConnections.org has helped thousands of families seeking help on these topics. “Website usage and feedback in our first year has been exceptional,” confirms Mahajan. “Visitors to the website nearly tripled in April alone when compared to all of last year. It is envisioned that, through the Internet, thousands of parents, families, and health care providers will have access to valuable resources and accurate clinical information at points of care or at home.”
