Marianjoy Psychologists and Neuropsychologists

 

 

 

Patrick Walsh, Psy.D

 

Dr. Walsh joined Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 1998 upon completion of his doctoral degree in clinical psychology. He completed his post-doctoral residency in neuropsychology at Marianjoy.  In 2008, he was named Director of the Psychology Department and Coordinator of Marianjoy’s Brain Injury Program.

 

Dr. Walsh completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at Loyola University of Chicago and attained his doctorate degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. 

 

He is a certified brain injury specialist through the American Brain Injury Association and provides clinical treatment and assessment of inpatient and outpatient brain injury survivors.  His areas of specialization include neuropsychology, brain injury, sports concussion, and rehabilitation psychology. 

 

Dr. Walsh is affiliated with the American Psychological Association, National Academy of Neuropsychology, and the Illinois Brain Injury Association.  In 2010, he was given the Make a Difference award by the Illinois Brain Injury Association for his work in sports concussion.  He also regularly participates in presentations to professionals and the community on topics related to brain injury and sports concussions.

Nancy Devereux, Ph.D.

Dr. Devereux joined Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 2001 after having previously been on staff at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Alexian Brothers Medical Center.

Dr. Devereux received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware and her advanced degrees from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School, currently known as Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. 

Her areas of specialty include brain injury and behavioral medicine. She is a certified brain injury specialist and has completed training in clinical hypnosis. Since 2001, Dr. Devereux has led Marianjoy’s High Hopes Brain Injury Support Group.

Dr. Devereux is affiliated with the American Psychological Association, Midwest Neuropsychology Group, and the Brain Injury Association of Illinois.

Eduardo Montoya, Psy.D

Dr. Montoya joined Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 2009 and was previously on staff at Tampa General Hospital.

Dr. Montoya received his bachelor’s in social work at the University of Texas at El Paso; his master’s in social work at the University of Michigan; and his Doctor of Psychology at Roosevelt University. He completed his post-doctoral training at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan/Wayne State University School of Medicine.

His areas of specialty include clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology. He works primarily with traumatic brain injury patients.  His role involves neuropsychological consultation and providing direct clinical services that contribute to treatment decisions regarding traumatic brain injury and the recovery process related to brain behavior pathology. He conducts clinical evaluations that incorporate a differential diagnoses to establish sound treatment decisions and excellent care planning to objectively determine the extent or severity of reported neurocognitive impairments, assessment of TBI, dementia, learning disability, and related psychological evaluations.

He is an affiliate of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychologists and the Hispanic Neuropsychology Society.

Dr. Montoya is also fluent in Spanish.

Toby Motycka, Psy.D.

Dr. Motycka began working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 2009 and previously had been in private practice.

He received his undergraduate degree at North Central College and earned his masters of art degree and his Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. His specialties include rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology.

Dr. Motycka taught Biological Bases of Behavior, Neuropsychological Assessment, and Advanced Neuropsychological Assessment at Argosy University/The Illinois School of Professional Psychology Schaumburg Campus from 1995-2012.  Since 1990, he has supervised graduated students in diagnostic practicum and internship.

Leslie Rogers, Ph.D.

Dr. Rogers began working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 1991. She was previously on staff at Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in Pennsylvania.

She received her undergraduate degree at Connecticut College and her master’s of science and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Ohio University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois.

Dr. Rogers practice includes the treatment of adult patients with a focus on adjustment issues related to a variety of medical conditions. These include spinal cord injury, musculoskeletal issues (joint replacement, fractures, multi-trauma, and amputation), and neuromuscular conditions (including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and ALS). She also specializes in assessment and treatment of individuals with a variety of cognitive disorders due to stroke, brain injury, or dementia.

Dr. Rogers has served on Marianjoy’s Ethics Committee for over 10 years and is also the program liaison for Marianjoy’s spinal cord injury team.

Angela Rozak, Ph.D.

Dr. Rozak joined Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 1992. She was previously on staff at Lutheran General Hospital and completed her internship at Westside VA.

Dr. Rozak received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University and her Ph.D from the University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School (now known as Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science).

Her areas of specialty include working with patients with a diagnosis of stroke or brain injury, with a focus on health and wellness.

Angelique Strand, Ph.D.

Dr. Strand joined Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in 2004 and works with patients at Marianjoy’s Integrative Pain Treatment Center in Oakbrook Terrace. Prior to joining Marianjoy, Dr. Strand was on staff at Resurrection Medical Center and was also in private practice.

Dr. Strand received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University and graduated with her Doctor of Philosophy from Auburn University in Alabama. Her areas of specialty include physical rehabilitation psychology and chronic pain.

She has taught undergraduate and graduate psychology courses at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Central Alabama Community College, and Troy University. She also teaches continuing education courses on chronic pain through the Marianjoy Professional Learning Institute.

Dr. Strand leads Marianjoy’s Chronic Pain Support Group which meets at the Oakbrook Terrace location.

S. Christine Valessares, Psy.D. 

Dr. Valessares is the pediatric neuropsychologist at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. She graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and following her graduation, completed a two-year postgraduate specialization in neuropsychological assessment, with an emphasis on pediatrics. 

Dr. Valessares taught elementary school and conducted neuropsychological assessments  in private practice.  For almost six years she worked as a psychologist in public school districts and wrote Individual Education Programs (IEP) and 504 Plans.  Dr. Valessares’ unique background of psychological training and public school employment affords her the experience to assist with a variety of school-based issues, such as school recommendations for children with concussions, attention problems, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and anxiety.  She serves on multiple insurance panels. 

Currently, she specializes in neuropsychological assessment and treatment recommendations for attention problems, concussions, cerebral palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, and depression.  Dr. Valessares enjoys discovering the path to success for each child.
