Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical Student Elective Rotations
Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital welcomes current 4th year medical students, in good academic standing from LCME or AOA accredited medical schools, interested in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).
The elective will provide a fundamental knowledge of the principles of PM&R. The student will participate in both the inpatient and outpatient setting with the attending physician and/or the resident on the rotation.
Students begin to develop the necessary skills to effectively manage the inpatient rehabilitative care of persons recovering from a variety of illnesses.
Students have exposure to a broad range of adult patients with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions such as hip and knee replacements, amputations, multiple traumas, neuromuscular disorders, and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Students interact with members of the rehabilitation team and observe a variety of specialized rehabilitation techniques in the therapy gyms.
Exposure to outpatient pain and pediatric rehabilitation may also be available upon student request.
Students are expected to attend weekly didactics.
All visiting medical students are expected to comply with policies set by Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital and the Residency Program of Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital.
