Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital

Continence Care

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital offers a continence clinic to expertly and compassionately help individuals with bladder control problems. Incontinence can affect you after an injury or illness, childbirth or surgery. You may even experience incontinence simply because you’re getting older.

Incontinence can steal your independence and hurt the quality of your life by confining you to your home and limiting your relationships with others. Marianjoy’s program offers non-surgical treatment by a team of caring experts who understand. Our team includes:

  • Board-certified physiatrist
  • Consulting urologist
  • Rehabilitation nurse

The continence clinic at Marianjoy includes state-of-the art equipment designed to diagnose and treat your condition. Depending on your situation, a variety of methods to help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles may be recommended. These may include:

  • Electrical stimulation
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Vaginal weights
  • Biofeedback

Women are often told to do Kegel exercises to strengthen pelvic floor muscles after the birth of a baby. However, if these exercises are not done correctly, bladder control problems can continue because the proper muscles are not being strengthened. Our program includes the use of biofeedback to help you identify which muscles need to be re-educated and strengthened. In addition, you’ll receive counseling and education regarding diet and behavior change.
