Therapeutic Sports and Recreation

Marianjoy’s Therapeutic Sports and Recreation program helps people with disabilities regain or develop fulfilling recreational lifestyles. Specialized therapy and adaptive equipment enable people with disabilities to participate in a variety of leisure and recreation activities.

By working with you on an individual basis, our therapeutic recreation specialists help you identify new interests and adapt your previous leisure activities to your abilities. Working closely with your other therapies and your physiatrist, your recreational therapist works with you to restore your optimal level of function and independence.

The Importance of a Leisure Lifestyle

At Marianjoy, we understand a leisure lifestyle is an important part of interacting with others. That’s why we’ve developed special programs for you and your family to enjoy. Along with one-on-one sessions, Marianjoy’s therapeutic recreation program offers the opportunity to participate in horticultural therapy, pet therapy and community trips to give you a chance to practice and use the skills you are learning in other therapies.

Marianjoy’s therapeutic sports and recreation program also gives people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports by offering therapeutic golf. This program is open to any person with a physical disability regardless of how long he or she has been out of rehabilitation.

Marianjoy also provides evening and weekend programs for patients and their families to interact together in leisure and specific interests. Patients are able to borrow leisure materials to use overnight and have the opportunity to be given projects to complete when they are not in other therapy sessions. Promoting creativity, self-expression and self worth are all aspects of Therapeutic Recreation.

You Want the Best
