Your Stay at Marianjoy

Located on a 60-acre wooded campus, Marianjoy, now part of Northwestern Medicine, features 127 private patient rooms, unique accessible gardens, a labyrinth, a chapel, a meditation room and many other features designed to enhance our holistic approach to rehabilitation. In addition to the acute level of care, the Wheaton location also offers subacute care and outpatient therapy.

The Admission Process

Patient admissions are arranged by the discharge facility, hospital or Marianjoy clinic. A family member or individual with Power of Attorney is encouraged to be present to facilitate the admission process and complete registration paperwork on your behalf if you are unable to do so. If you require a wheelchair, one will be provided for you upon your arrival. Prior to your arrival, the Marianjoy admissions checklist will help identify essential items to bring with you to expedite your admissions process. Not sure what to bring? View Marianjoy's What to Bring Checklist for a list of personal items to make your stay more comfortable.

A Typical Day

When you are admitted to Marianjoy, your therapy will begin with an evaluation. Once your initial evaluation is complete, you will receive therapy (three hours per day Monday through Friday with an abbreviated schedule on Saturday for inpatient) based on your individualized rehabilitation program every day, except for Sunday. You will work with a rehabilitation team, which includes a physiatrist, nursing staff, therapists and a case manager. During your stay at Marianjoy, you will frequently be out of your room and in therapy. Immediate family members are welcome to attend your therapy sessions between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Room Amenities

Most rooms at Marianjoy are private and have a spacious, wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Each room is equipped with the following:

  • Telephone
  • Armoire to store clothes
  • Safe to secure personal items
  • Cable television
  • Free Wi-Fi, available throughout the facility

Visiting Hours

Marianjoy visiting hours are 9:00 am—8:00 pm. For the convenience of all visitors, free parking is available in our three-story parking garage. Please note, Marianjoy allows visits with your pet in the main lobby. The pet must be accompanied by an adult and leashed.

Preparing for Discharge

Your rehabilitation journey towards discharge starts on day one. During the first week of your stay at Marianjoy, members of your care team will meet to evaluate your condition and set goals for your return home or to the next level of care. Following discharge, patients can continue a comprehensive therapy program at Marianjoy through outpatient rehabilitation and day rehabilitation programs, as well as continue to schedule appointments for rehabilitative medical treatments with a Marianjoy Medical Group physiatrist.
