Your Stay at Marianjoy

Located on a 60-acre wooded campus, Marianjoy, now part of Northwestern Medicine, features 127 private patient rooms, unique accessible gardens, a labyrinth, a chapel, a meditation room and many other features designed to enhance our holistic approach to rehabilitation. In addition to the acute level of care, the Wheaton location also offers outpatient therapy.

The Admission Process

Patient admissions are arranged by the discharge facility, hospital or Marianjoy clinic. A family member or individual with Power of Attorney is encouraged to be present to facilitate the admission process and complete registration paperwork on your behalf if you are unable to do so. If you require a wheelchair, one will be provided for you upon your arrival. Prior to your arrival, the Marianjoy admissions checklist will help identify essential items to bring with you to expedite your admissions process. Not sure what to bring? View Marianjoy's What to Bring Checklist for a list of personal items to make your stay more comfortable.

A Typical Day

When you are admitted to Marianjoy, you will be evaluated by your physician, nursing staff and therapists. These evaluations will help your rehabilitation team develop an individualized program to address your particular needs and goals. Throughout your stay, your therapy sessions are intended to maximize your recovery; on average, you will receive a minimum of three hours of therapy a day on at least five days per week.

Room Amenities

Most rooms at Marianjoy are private and have a spacious, wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Each room is equipped with the following:

  • Telephone
  • Armoire to store clothes
  • Safe to secure personal items
  • Cable television
  • Free Wi-Fi, available throughout the facility

Visiting Hours

As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we continue to adjust our visitor policy. Please see this page for the most current policy at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital.

Preparing for Discharge

Your rehabilitation journey towards discharge starts on day one. During the first week of your stay at Marianjoy, members of your care team will meet to evaluate your condition and set goals for your return home or to the next level of care. Following discharge, patients can continue a comprehensive therapy program at Marianjoy through outpatient rehabilitation and day rehabilitation programs, as well as continue to schedule appointments for rehabilitative medical treatments with a Regional Medical Group physiatrist.

Questions about Your Stay

We are committed to providing you with exceptional care. Any member of your care team can answer questions about your stay. Your case manager is the primary liaison between you, your family and the members of your care team. They can answer medical management questions or arrange for your physician to speak with you.
