Your Regional Medical Group physician at Marianjoy is a physiatrist (fi-ZAI-ah-trist) — a specialist trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physiatrists treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Many of the Marianjoy RMG physiatrists have subspecialty certifications in brain injury medicine, pain medicine, pediatric rehabilitation medicine, spinal cord injury medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine.

As the leader of your care team, your RMG physiatrist will:

  • oversee your entire medical care team at Marianjoy.
  • prescribe your therapy treatments and medications.
  • communicate with your personal and/or referring physician as needed.
  • coordinate the services of other medical specialists during your stay at Marianjoy.
  • educate you and your family about your condition and its implications.

After you complete your stay at Marianjoy, you will return to your personal and/or referring physician for care. You may continue to see your Regional Medical Group physiatrist in our clinic on an outpatient basis, depending on your needs.
